Google puts a work agent at the centre of Gemini
Google’s October announcement connects knowledge work, coding and Workspace tasks through a shared agent.
What happened
At Gemini at Work on 8 October, Google Cloud introduced the Gemini agent: an agent intended to handle questions, content creation, coding and longer tasks from a common interface.
Google described connections across Workspace, including Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Calendar. Its announcement also covers model routing, agent identities, permission controls, audit trails and project spending limits. These are the company’s product descriptions, not results from independent testing by SI Centralization.
Our take
The interesting question is whether an agent can finish a useful sequence of work with fewer handoffs. Access to business information should be limited to what that sequence actually requires.
A practical starting point
Map a weekly reporting task: where its inputs live, who checks the numbers and who receives the result. That gives a team a concrete workflow to evaluate when the relevant features are available in its account.

Would this workflow save you time?
Adjust the example to reflect your work. This is an estimate using your inputs, not a product benchmark.
See the calculation
Review time counts too. Negative results mean the example takes longer overall.
